Superbuy vs Fishgoo for Model Kits: A Real Comparison

Oct 22, 2026 · ModelHaul Tools

Short answer: they price within a few percent of each other on the same parcel — the real difference is in the details that hurt hobby buyers: how much a QC photo costs, how long storage is free, and whether they will remove the retail box. If you are shipping one kit, pick whichever has a coupon; if you are building a haul, the storage window and repack policy decide it.

*Disclaimer, up front: we earn a referral fee from both. That is why this page separates what is measurable from what is a judgement call. Where they are the same, I say so.*

What we compared

Same test parcel, measured at a China warehouse:

  • 1× PG-scale kit, 1.1 kg actual, 60×40×15 cm retail box
  • 4× waterslide decal sheets, 200 g total
  • 1× nipper, 120 g

Charged weight after repack (kit shipped flat, decals and nipper in one mailer): 1.9 kg, ~45×32×8 cm

What the differences actually cost you

Storage window

This is the sleeper issue. A haul is not a single purchase — it is five purchases spread over six weeks, and every seller arrives at a different time. If the free storage window is short, you get pushed into either (a) shipping early and paying a second shipment for the late parcel, or (b) paying storage fees that quietly cancel the consolidation saving.

For hobby buyers who order from multiple Taobao stores, a long storage window is worth more than a 3% line discount.

QC photos

On model kits, QC photos are not optional. The failure modes are specific and expensive: broken sprue, missing runner, wrong variant (an "MG" that ships as "HG"), warped resin. A photo set that shows the sealed box only is useless — you need the box opened.

Ask for: box opened, sprues laid out, runner count visible, and a close-up of the box label / barcode. Both agents will do this; the difference is whether it costs extra and how many angles you get free.

Repack and box removal

Neither does this by default. Both do it on request. The agent that responds to this request faster is the one you want, because on model kits it is usually the largest single line item of savings — routinely 30-50% of chargeable weight.

Line availability

Superbuy's wider line list matters mainly for branded goods and borderline items. If your haul includes anything with a trademark, the line choice narrows fast, and having more lines available is the difference between shipping and not.

The number that matters more than either agent

Neither agent's fee is your biggest cost. Chargeable weight is. Before you compare quotes, check what your parcel will actually bill as:

A 30% cut in chargeable weight beats every agent coupon on the market.

What to do if neither one is available on your route

Line availability changes by destination and by month. If both quotes look bad, Sugargoo runs the same warehouse-and-consolidation model and is worth pricing as a third number — long free storage and a fast QC turnaround. Register the ones that price well for your route and compare on the exact box, not on the headline rate.

FAQ

Is one cheaper on line pricing?\ Within a few percent on the same parcel and the same line. The gap widens on specialty lines, not on the common air economy ones.

Can I split a haul between both?\ Yes, some buyers do — heavy tools through one, kits through the other. It adds per-parcel handling fees, so it only pays above a certain size.

What if my parcel arrives damaged?\ Both require the QC photo set to prove the damage predates the international leg. No photos, no claim — this is the real reason to care about photo policy.
